The Bayou Beast is CR Coffee's signature summer seasonal drink — a pandan iced latte with the fun feel of late summer and sweet, spicy vibes of early fall. It first appeared on the menu in 2021 and quickly became one of the most requested drinks at all three locations.
Pandan is a Southeast Asian plant that gives the drink its distinctive green color and a flavor that is hard to compare to anything else — slightly sweet, slightly nutty, and completely different from the typical coffee shop seasonal. It is not a syrup-heavy novelty drink. It is a well-built latte that happens to be bright green.
The drink was originally called the Swamp Monster. In 2025, Monster Energy sent a cease and desist letter, so it was renamed the Bayou Beast. Same drink, new name. The customers who know, know.
The Bayou Beast is available from July through October at all CR Coffee locations. It has also made special appearances outside its normal season — including a St. Patrick's Day version, because a green drink on March 17th in New Orleans is too good an opportunity to pass up.
