In April 2015, Kevin and Ashley Pedeaux opened CR Coffee inside the historic St. Roch Market on St. Claude Avenue in New Orleans. The 1875 market building had been closed for years and was reopening as a food hall — part of the broader revitalization of the St. Roch, Marigny, and Bywater neighborhoods.
Kevin had co-founded Coast Roast Coffee in 2009, building the roasting operation on the Mississippi Gulf Coast with two antique Royal No. 6 drum roasters. He developed all the blends and handled the green bean buying himself. Opening a retail coffee stall at St. Roch Market was the next step — a way to serve his own coffee directly to New Orleans.
CR Coffee became one of the market's original anchor vendors. The stall served Coast Roast beans — freshly roasted on those 1910s-era drum machines — to a neighborhood that was still rebuilding. From day one, the focus was simple: good coffee, served by people who know coffee.
What started as a single stall inside a food hall would eventually grow into three brick-and-mortar locations across the city. But St. Roch Market is where it all began, and the original location is still serving the Marigny and Bywater community today.
