One year after opening the doors at 3618 Magazine Street, CR Coffee marked the milestone in the middle of a pandemic. The flagship had opened right before COVID changed everything, which meant the first year of business on Magazine Street was anything but normal.
Despite the circumstances, the shop found its footing. The outdoor patio became essential when indoor dining restrictions were in place. The Garden District community showed up — walking over from the surrounding blocks, stopping by on bike rides, bringing their dogs for the morning coffee run.
The first year also saw the French Roast blend explode in popularity. Before COVID, lighter roasts were the best sellers. During the pandemic, French Roast took off to the point where it was hard to keep in stock. Kevin has talked about this shift on the Coffee with Kevin show — something about the moment made people want bolder, darker coffee.
One year in, the Magazine Street flagship had proven that the pop-up test from 2016 was right: this neighborhood wanted a permanent CR Coffee. Thank you to every customer who walked through the red door and made this community what it is.
